The University College London (UCL) Energy Institute is to host a seminar on international shipping greenhouse gas (GHG) policy post-Paris Agreement, recent developments at the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC) and their implications for the sector.
It will be held at the UCL Energy Institute, which is located in Central London, on May 24, 2016 between 17.30 and 19.30.
The seminar will look at the recent GHG emissions policy developments at the United Nations International Maritime Organisation (IMO), which was left out of the UNFCCC COP21 agreement. The presentations will look at the consequences of targets and what options exist for shipping to tread in the 1.5/2 degrees pathway, from a modelling perspective and from the shipping industry viewpoint.
Dr Tristan Smith, Reader in Energy and Transport at the UCL Energy Institute, will present the findings of the group and discuss with David Balston, Director of Policy, the fair share/intended IMO contribution topic, with some reflection on IMO MEPC 69 and where this leaves those debates.
