The annual Shipping in Changing Climates Conference 2016 will once again gather experts from academia, industry and also key policy makers to present developments, share experience and develop joint actions to help shipping transition towards a low carbon and sustainable future. This year the conference will be held in Newcastle (UK) on November 10 – 11, 2016.
The GBP 4 million Shipping in Changing Climates project uses a whole systems approach to understand the scope for greater energy efficiency of the supply side, understand the demand side drivers and their interaction and potential future evolution of shipping. The project’s consortium consists of five UK universities and industry partners Lloyds Register, Rolls Royce, Shell, BMT and MSI and is funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) Energy Programme. The project aims to develop new knowledge and understanding on the subject of the shipping system, its energy efficiency and emissions, and its transition to a low carbon, more resilient future.
Registration for the Shipping in Changing Climates Conference 2016 is now open and the deadline for submissions of abstracts is September 30, 2016. Whilst the conference is focused on the shipping industry, it also welcomes contributions from other transport sectors on related topics, including:
* Strategies to mitigate climate change
* Technologies for energy efficiency
* Alternative fuels
* Design of environmentally friendly ships
* Performance verification, monitoring and management
* Optimisation of logistics
* Policies, regulations and strategies for sustainable shipping
* Measuring and mapping shipping emissions
This pivotal industry gathering was previously known as the Low Carbon Shipping conference, having been launched with that name in 2011.
