Low-Emission E-Tug Design Unveiled

Offshore Ship Designers (OSD) has designed a low-emission, low resistance stable hull, compact e-tug for its Azistern series of vessels.

The vessel has all-round visibility, typical of all Azistern designs but unlike other Azistern vessels is driven by a revolutionary podded drive that has a flexible and green electro/diesel-electric configuration. The hybrid power is generated by two 970kW variable speed gensets and is supported by two 400kWh lithium battery packs.

The tug can be delivered compliant with International Maritime Organization (IMO) nitrogen oxides (NOx) Tier III requirements with an after-treatment system that makes it suitable for use in Emission Control Areas (ECAs).

The ship is also equipped with an innovative energy management system and features optimised loading of the propulsion system to ensure low maintenance and fuel costs, while battery use during transient sailing and manoeuvring can be performed with zero emissions.
