MacGregor, part of Cargotec, and Rolls-Royce will look at how the development of autonomous navigation and cargo systems onboard container ships will affect shipping.
- Companies signed a memorandum of understanding on research and development to look at how autonomous activities will be carried out.
- Rolls Royce expects a remote controlled ship to be in operation by the end of the decade and by 2030 for them to be a common sight.
- MacGregor says that it sees a lot of waste, damage to cargo and dangerous conditions due to inefficiency in operations and hopes that collaboration of industry leaders through projects such as this one can change this.
