Maran Gas Maritime Orders Next-Generation Vessels

Maran Gas Maritime has signed new contracts with Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) for the construction of two ME-GI (gas injection) powered liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers and two very large crude carriers (VLCCs).

The ships have been described as next generation eco-ships, meeting International Maritime Organization (IMO) Tier III standards for nitrogen oxides (NOx) reduction.  The LNG carriers will be fitted with MAN B&W gas and fuel burning engines to meet Tier III using exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) in gas and fuel mode.  The MAN B&W engines will increase fuel efficiency compared to a standard LNG carrier and lower emissions.

The VLCCs will each be powered by a single MAN B&W high-efficiency engine fitted with the latest fuel saving technologies and an EGR system to ensure Tier III compliance.

The LNG carriers are due for delivery in 2019 and the VLCCs for the first half of 2018.

Maran Gas Maritime, the LNG shipping company of Angelicoussis Shipping Group, Greece’s largest ship owner, has ordered the four ships following a previous order of four MEGI powered LNG carriers from DEME.
