EUROPEAN tech firm consortium MARANDA has won EU funding to field test and further develop fuel cells from Sweden’s PowerCell for marine use.
What you need to know:
- The MARANDA consortium targets the use of hydrogen power in fuel cells in the marine environment.
- 48 month project with €3m in funding. Partners are ABB, OMB Saleri, PersEE, Suomen ympäristökeskus, Swiss Hydrogen and VTT.
- PowerCell scaleable test system to be installed on Arctic research vessel Aranda and tested for 18 months from March 2017.
- PowerCell already has experience testing fuel cell systems in different industries.
- Fuel cells seen by many marine environment experts as crucial for reducing shipping’s future footprint.
