With an increasingly digitalised shipping world, there comes a number of jobs that just didn’t really exist 10 years ago in the way they do today. One of these is the Chief Digital Officer. With Fathom’s Fleet Transformation event just around the corner, we take a look at some of the CDOs you might see speaking there.
What is a Chief Digital Officer?
Using online technologies and data, the CDO helps transform traditional businesses to digital ones. A CDO is one of the most discussed job roles but what does it involve? These profiles might help you understand.
Inge Sandvik, CDO of Wilh. Wilhelmsen
Sandvik claims he “dreams about building more intelligent and habit-changing products”. He uses his ability to see patterns, trends, and opportunities to innovate and communicate to help others get onboard with the story. Prior to his maritime career, he launched as a selected launch partner on Spotify’s new platform in 2011 and quickly became the top app. During the last 10 years he has helped to raise more than USD 10m for three companies.
Aleksander Stensby, CDO, Klaveness
Stensby has been working at CDO at Klaveness since January 2016. He advises and consults in digital applications and has “keen interests in all things big data”. To prepare him for his digital role, he spent a year gaining an MSc in computer science, which involved studying artificial intelligence, evolutionary computation & artificial life, and algorithm analysis and design.
Niclas Ingeström, CDO, Stena Group
Ingeström has taken on Stena’s latest role as CDO, which was developed to use new technology to create new services and products that generate revenue, increase interest in Stena, and increase efficiency. Ingeström’s entrepreneurial spirit and a broad experience in strategic and tactical business planning helps him to do this. The CDO helps drive a new separate organisation that will focus on digital business development and at the same time help all directors/managers within the Stena Sphere to get ready for the inevitable digitalisations of businesses.
Ibrahim Gokcen, CDO, Maersk
Gokcen leads the digital transformation, innovation and product portfolio of Maersk Transport & Logistics across container shipping, port operations and supply chain management.
