Milestone For Japanese Scrubber Installation

Japanese shipyard Imabari have successfully installed a Fuji Electric exhaust gas cleaning system (scrubber) on the bulk carrier M/V Nadeshiko, marking the first installation of its kind in Japan.

The installation of the SOx Scrubber on the 84,000 DWT vessel, is the result of a joint research support project with ship classification society, Class NK and includes the main engine exhaust gas cleaning system (EGCS) installation on an operating newbuild vessel, and a closed loop practicing test.

The Fuji Electric SOx scrubber uses a cyclone system and features a compact size which allows it to be integrated into a vessel without having to modify the dimensions of superstructure

The vessel will be used to collect data for system verification, as well as maintenance and operation information, says Imabari.
