Mitsui-MAN ethane engine passes sea trials

Mitsui-MAN B&W 7G50ME-C9.5-GIE unit has successfully completed sea trials onboard a liquefied ethylene gas carrier.

  • Gaschem Beluga was fitted with the two-stroke gas injection ethane (GIE) engine, which was constructed at Sinopacific Offshore Engineering, China.
  • Trials were carried out between Houston and the Bahamas with different loads. No gas leaks occurred.
  • Gaschem Beluga then crossed the Atlantic, powered completely by ethane. It has achieved a total of 550 operational hours.
