Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) has fitted ClassNK Consulting Service’s condition-based monitoring (CBM) system ClassNK CMAXS e-GICSX to one of its tankers, the M/V Taranaki Sun, marking the system’s first commercial application.
The software uses collected data to analyse abnormalities in the engine and provides troubleshooting based on the results. CMAXS e-GICSX collects large amounts of data from multiple sensors on main diesel engines. It also harvests voyage and machinery data.
The software uses and algorithm to detect and analyse abnormalities. This reduces maintenance requirements and also can be used to determine the optimal procurement timing of replacement parts.
