Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL) has been recognised at both the Port of Los Angeles and the Port of Long Beach, California, for its performance in the Vessel Speed Reduction Program and Green Flag Program, both of which urge ship operators to slow down to 12 knots or less when sailing within 40 nautical miles (nm) of the shore.
Through annual awards, the programs encourage ship operators to reduce their vessel speeds in order to lower emissions of CO2, nitrogen oxides (NOx) and sulphur oxides (SOx) within the coastal areas and preserve the natural environment.
Since the award programs started in 2005 and 2008, MOL has been recognised every year for its participation and performance.
