MOL Takes Delivery of New Eco-Ship

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) has taken delivery of a new methanol carrier that has been termed an eco-ship due to its emission-reducing capabilities, its ballast water treatment system (BWTS) and energy-saving accessories in front and astern of the propellers.

The vessel is also one of the first to be equipped with a 2-stroke dual-fuel low-rev main engine capable of running on methanol.

The 50,000 DWT Manchac Sun will use the biodegradable fuel for propulsion to reduce the ship’s emissions of sulphur oxides (SOx), particulate matter, and nitrogen oxides (NOx).

The vessel was delivered by Minaminippon Shipbuilding on September 28 and will be on a long-term time charter to Waterfront Shipping Company.
