New Antifouling Product Boasts Unique Polymer Combo

AkzoNobel has this week launched its latest antifouling offering for the marine market.

Developed over a period of ten years, Intercept 8500 LPP features a unique polymer combination that differs from conventional biocidal coatings.

The company has confirmed that Intercept 8500 LPP has proven to be the highest performing biocidal antifouling in AkzoNobel’s International range of marine coatings. During in service trials between the Arabian Gulf and South East Asia, a high fouling route, the coating surpassed the fouling control performance of AkzoNobel’s current biocidal coatings range.

The antifouling coating has been designed for the deep sea market to control fouling for up to 90 months, even on high risk fouling routes.  According to the company, the coating can be applied using the same techniques as other biocidal coatings, with no additional costs, time or resource provisions necessary during dry-docking.

The coating also comes with extended performance guarantee of no more than four percent and a static performance guarantee of up to 35 days.
