Deltamarin has launched its new liquefied natural gas (LNG) powered ferry design ‘DeltaLinx’ at the BaltExpo 2015 exhibition in Gdańsk, Poland.
DeltaLinx is a compact 800 passenger ferry designed for short coastal routes to link smaller neighbouring towns and has been designed for leaving a minimal environmental footprint.
The ferry utilises LNG as fuel to eliminate sulphur oxides (SOx) and to reduce nitrogen oxides (NOx) and carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions and has a large LNG tank below the car deck for weekly refuelling. In addition, streamlined hull lines reduce resistance and ensure low wash.
The ready-to-apply DeltaLinx design uses existing technologies and integrates them into the smallest possible package. The ferry length of approximately 80 meters enables operations between smaller towns and congested ports.
High-lift rudders and a bow thruster make maneuvring easy. To cope with rough weather along the route, an extensive freeboard in the bow area is provided. Additionally fin stabilisers secure smooth sailing.
Earlier this year, Deltamarin launched the highly energy efficient and environmentally-friendly Ro-Pax vessel concept ‘DeltaChallenger’ which promotes new clean technologies, for example through the use of LNG as fuel as well as using wind propulsion.
