Viking Grace, will be fitted with a 24m high Norsepower rotor, making it the first-ever global LNG-wind electric propulsion hybrid ship.
- Norsepower claims that its technology could help Viking Grace reduce carbon emissions by 900 tonnes annually.
- The LNG-fuelled ferry runs between Stockholm, Sweden and Turku, Finland. Installation of the rotor will be in 2018.
- Norsepower has two prototype systems fitted onto another Finnish vessel, Estraden, a ro-ro vessel.
- Installation is funded by EU cash
- There is also a Letter of Intent for the installation of another rotor on a Viking newbuilding currently on order with a Chinese shipyard.
