Norwegian ferry company integrates hybrid electric technology

Norwegian ferry company, Fjord1, is to receive hybrid electric technology from Norwegian Electric Systems for three of its vessels.

  • Electrical propulsion systems using chargeable lithium-ion batteries will reduce the ferries’ emissions.
  • NES’s DC-Grid system can be modified to suit vessel upgrades that require larger battery capacities or higher shore power charging.
  • Strict emissions requirements enforced by the Norwegian Road Authorities on the Brekstad – Valset and Sandvikvåg – Husavik routes where the ferries will be sailing.

For more information on the hybrid electric technology, see NES’s website.
