NovaAlgoma Cement Carriers Limited has chosen Alfa Laval’s PureSOx hybrid exhaust gas cleaning system (EGCS) fit to its Nacc Quebec self-discharging cement carrier that is to be converted from an existing vessel in China and begin operation in 2017.
The PureSOx scrubber will allow Nacc Quebec to operate in the United States Great Lakes environment in compliance with the US Vessel General Permit (VGP) due to its ability to function in closed-loop mode. However, its hybrid configuration also means it will be able to operate in open-loop mode using seawater when chosen for maximum operational flexibility.
A U-design was selected over the I-design for this installation to provide the best fit for space on boards and the option to operate in bypass mode.
