A global initiative entitled The PartnerShip is to drive awareness of the shipping industry through educating and fundraising via a virtual online shop.
The concept will enable maritime business to satisfy their corporate social responsibility (CSR), educational and marketing needs all in one by combining merchant ship types as a unique generic design. This will provide a platform to showcase the array of equipment, systems and services that are available today for the operation of the merchant fleet.
The project will be run over a two-year cycle and will continuously develop practical online tools for educating the next generation on ships, ship components and their equipment and the services available that enable a ship to operate effectively.
The project will also build relationships in and outside of the shipping industry, with the aim of raising the profile of the industry, the ship, its related components and services in an engaging and visible way.
Fundraising will also be a part of the project. Through sponsoring of each component or service, participation in project events from launch to delivery, special fundraising events and through individual donations, the project hopes to raise £1 million to support a variety of good causes. Companies will have the opportunity to become the exclusive provider of an item of equipment or a service for the ‘virtual ship’ and all benefactors can choose which charities benefit from their generosity.
Mike Porter, Director of Podium 4 and founder of The PartnerShip, commented: “I have long believed that the shipping industry is undersold in the world of big business. It has so much more to offer and with new technologies to the fore, we need a collective approach and an innovative vehicle to embrace the future generation and improve the overall industry image. The Partnership is an opportunity for us to share our collective abilities and achieve the vision of a collaborative approach supporting the future success of our industry.”
