Optimarin has won an order for 16 of its Optimarin Ballast Systems (OBS) to be installed on ten Royal Netherlands naval vessels.
Goltens Worldwide announced that the ballast systems have been ordered by the Defence Material Organisation, which has awarded three contracts to its Green Technologies business unit for the engineering and turnkey installation of the OBS’.
The Royal Netherlands Navy vessels will feature the systems in order to facilitate compliance with the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO’s) International Convention for the Control and Management of Ships’ Ballast Water and Sediments and the United States Coast Guard (USCG) regulations.
The UV-based ballast water treatment systems (BWTS) is Type Approved by DNV GL and holds Alternate Management System (AMS) acceptance from the USCG. The OBS BWTS is in the final stages of full USCG Type Approval, with certification expected during 2016.
Goltens Green Technologies will engineer and install the systems during 2016 and 2017. The systems will be fitted to the ships during their scheduled maintenance intervals.
