Overseas Shipholding Group Selects De Nora BWTS for Product Tankers

Overseas Shipholding Group (OSG) is to fit two De Nora ballast water management systems (BWMS) to its 50,000 DWT ships, the Overseas Milos and the Overseas Athens chemical product tankers.

The De Nora Balpure BWTS functions using electrochlorination to ensure that the ballast water discharged meets the environmental discharge limits set by the International Maritime Organization (IMO), the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and United States Coast Guard (USCG).

Dual Balpure BP850-B is the IMO Type Approved chosen model and will treat 1,500m3/h of ballast water to ensure that the ships are ready for compliance with the Ballast Water Management Convention once it enters into force.

The BWMS are self-cleaning for reduced maintenance purposes and combine side stream electrochlorination and filtration to generate hypochlorite as needed.  The systems can be positioned away from ballast piping and has proven ability to kill organisms using less power than alternative ballast water treatment technologies.
