Gas Natural Fenosa and Baleària have launched a natural gas engine for passenger boats in the Port of Barcelona.
- Engine will operate on the Abel Matutes, owned by Baleària on the Barcelona-Palma de Mallorca route.
- Abel Matutes will consume natural gas when manoeuvring to approach and leave the port. According to Gas Natura Fenosa 4,000 tonnes of CO2, 60 tonnes of nitrogen oxides and 6 tonnes of sulphur oxides will be saved.
- President of the Port of Barcelona, Sixte Cambra, says the adoption of LNG in Barcelona will not only reduce emissions but also make transport more competitive. By having the LNG-supply infrastructure, the port can also attract more modern and energy efficient ships he said.
