Patrick Verhoeven to leave ECSA

Patrick Verhoeven is to leave his post as secretary-general of the European Community Shipowners Association at the end of August. He will be joining the International Association of Ports and Harbours as Managing Director Policy and Strategy.

Mr Verhoeven has been at ECSA for four years, previously heading up the European Sea Ports Association, ESPO where he worked for 12 years.

During his time at ECSA he has seen the organisation lobby European rule makers, notably against their development of separate CO2 emission control measures that ECSA has warned jeapordise similar work at the IMO.

In a press statement announcing the decision, ECSA President Niels Smedegaard said: “Patrick has regretfully decided to leave his position with us after four years, to take up a new role in a global environment. I would like to thank him for his modernisation of the ECSA secretariat, commitment and contributions to the many important topics which the European Shipowners Community has faced during his tenure.”

The search process for a new Secretary General has started and an Executive Search company is being selected to manage the recruitment process.
