Polar research vessel, Sir David Attenborough, will receive marine growth prevention systems (MGPS) from Cathelco to protect the ship from biofouling.
- Research vessel is being built by Cammell Laird and will be operated by the British Antarctic Survey once it enters operation in 2019.
- Vessel will host up to 60 scientists and act as a floating laboratory to carry out research into climate change and future sea level rise.
- MGPS include electrolysis tanks with copper and aluminium anodes, which reduce the ability for barnacles and mussel larvae to settle. Ions from the aluminium anode create an anti-corrosive layer to protect the internal surfaces of pipes.
