Port Authorities Vie for Nature Award

The 8th European Sea Ports Organisation (ESPO) Award on Societal Integration of Ports is to take place in November this year, with eleven port authorities vying for the award under the theme of Nature in Ports.

The Nature in Ports award recognises port authorities that have proven to be the best in safeguarding and upgrading the nature and ecosystem (on land or waterside) in the port area.  It also rewards ports that succeed in opening up these areas for the people living around the port, enabling them to enjoy the surrounding nature while the International Ship and Port Facility (ISPS) Code is in place.

The eleven port authorities that have applied for the ESPO Award 2016 include Antwerp Port Authority, Dunkirk-Port, Guadeloupe Port Caraïbes, HAROPA / Port of Le Havre Authority, Bremenports GmbH & Co. KG, Freeport of Riga Authority, Port of Rotterdam, Port of Cartagena, Port Authority of Huelva, Port Authority of Mellila, Associated British Ports.

The winner will be selected by an independent jury of seven international experts and will be chaired by former President of the European Parliament and TEN-T coordinator Pat Cox, who will abstain from voting.

The award will be officially handed out during an Award Ceremony and Port Night on November 9, 2016, in Brussels.
