The Port of Long Beach says that it is progressing with its environmental efforts and continues to grow sustainably with financial strength, despite a challenging 2016.
- The port says that it will continue to pursue competitiveness through its Strategic Plan that identifies course corrections, quantifies key goals and ensures the resources are available to meet the port’s mission.
- Key moments in 2016 include hosting the christening of the largest vessel, CMA CGM’s 18,000 teu Benjamin Franklin, to visit North America; the opening of the first phase of the highly advanced Pier E terminal; and construction of the early stages of the new higher replacement of the Gerald Desmond Bridge.
- The port attributes its strategic plan to its success, which helped it to reinvest in infrastructure, train its labour force and continue to make ecological improvements and generate shipping line partners.
