Pritchard-Gordon Tankers has signed a contract with ERMA FIRST to retrofit ballast water treatment systems (BWTS) to four of its chemical tankers.
The contract for the ERMA FIRST FIT 400m3/h BWTS includes a full engineering package, consisting of 3D laser scanning, an engineering study and more. The installation of the systems to these ships aims to ensure they can meet all International Maritime Organization (IMO) and United States Coast Guard (USCG) requirements.
ERMA FIRST BWTS FIT is an advanced modular system that uses electrolysis to remove the danger of re-growth of microorganisms. It consists of a high-end backwash filter and an electrolytic cell, which have proven to perform well in the most demanding conditions. The screen filter is automatically self-cleaning and is specially designed to remove large zooplankton, phytoplankton and sediments, and works under minimum pressure while retaining a small footprint.
The first installations are scheduled for the next few years and the last delivery in 2020. The first 3D laser scanning is planned before the end of 2016.
