AlixPartners has released a report on the global container shipping outlook for 2017.
- Report states that container carriers will face harsh times due to sluggish demand and the contribution of mega-vessels to the world fleet.
- Container shipowners should look at taking vessels from distressed competitors and financial owners in order to help them operate at lower costs and make them more competitive.
- Scrapping is on the rise says the report, with 35 container vessels, equating to 119,500 TEUs scrapped in January 2017 and only nine accounting for 27,000 TEU’s in 2016.
