Rolls-Royce to use Inmarsat’s Fleet Xpress for energy management solution

Rolls Royce Marine, the UK-listed engine maker and ship design company has announced an agreement with satellite service provider Inmarsat to use the latter’s new communications  platform to deliver energy management solutions.

The two firms have signed a letter of intent, giving Rolls Royce the option to make its energy management system, called Energy Management 2.0, available via Inmarsat’s Fleet Xpress high-speed broadband service.

The Rolls Royce energy management system uses shipboard sensors to help in the reduction of on-board energy consumption.  In the press release the two companies said that vessels equipped with the energy management software can operate within the Inmarsat Certified Application Provider programme (CAPP).

It also allows vessels to use the data to meet the EU MRV requirements as well as the IMO’s demands for an up-to-date Ship Energy Efficiency Management Plan.
