Royal Caribbean Cruise Line’s (RCCL) decade-long partnership with Eniram, a provider of energy management technology and analytic services, has resulted in a 4% decrease in fuel consumption fleetwide, leading to annual savings of $16 million in fuel costs and annual reductions of 35,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions.
RCCL has been able to achieve such reductions thanks to the data and analyses generated by Eniram software. Using over a trillion measurement points, Eniram’s software allows RCCL to acquire large quantities of data onboard any ship during normal operation. This allows RCCL to fully optimise its ships for best fuel savings and emissions reductions.
Advanced statistical methods, for instance, provide onboard engineers and deck officers with information on how best to trim the ship, what speed to operate, how much load the engines should have and what route to take.
The collaboration has also resulted in several improvements and when comparing the newest RCCL Quantum-class ships with previous versions, the Quantum-class is now more efficient.
