Saga Shipholding has installed Optimarin Ballast Systems (OBS) throughout its entire fleet of 32 advanced open hatch cargo vessels.
- Saga is the first shipowner to install United States Coast Guard compliant ballast water treatment systems throughout its entire fleet.
- Saga says it took the early adoption approach, enabling all ships to be fully fitted with USCG type approved BWTS.
- OBS uses ultraviolet lamps to remove species carried in a vessel’s ballast water and has plans to install the USCG software upgrade to existing systems to ensure ongoing compliance.
