Dutch shipping company Spliethoff has equipped five of its ships with exhaust gas cleaning systems (EGCS).
The ‘scrubber’ retrofits were carried out by ship repairing subsidiary of the Estonian-owned Vakaru Laivu Gamykla (Western Shipyard, or VLG), Vakaru Laivu Remontas (VLR).
Following the upgrade of the first of Spliethoff’s ships last October, Spliethoff plan to continue cooperation with VLR and intend to acquire European Union (EU) financing for the upgrade of further ships.
The installation of scrubbers to Spliethoff’s fleet, a member of the Trident Alliance, will allow the ships to operate its transport services connecting the Baltic with the North Sea and the US Coast.
