St Lucia Ratifies the Ballast Water Management Convention

St Lucia’s ratification of the Ballast Water Management Convention brings the number of States party to the Convention to 50, representing 34.81% of the world’s merchant fleet tonnage.

The percentage of the world fleet required to nudge the Convention’s entry into force now stands at just 0.19%.

Mr. Tafawa Williams, Alternate Permanent Representative of Saint Lucia to International Maritime Organization (IMO), met IMO’s Frederick Kenney, Director, Legal Affairs and External Relations Division, to deposit the instruments of accession for a total of four IMO treaties, on May 26.

Recent ratifications by member States preceding St Lucia’s have come from Belgium, Fiji, Ghana, Indonesia and Morocco.
