Stena RoRo Get Open-Loop Scrubber Duo

Stena RoRo AB has received two scrubbers from CR Ocean Engineering to comply with MARPOL Annex VI emission regulations regarding sulphur oxides (SOx).

The open-loop scrubbers have been on the MV Forerunner cargo ship.  The first scrubber is installed on the Main Engine 1 (port side) and the second scrubber on the Maine Engine 4 (starboard side).  Both four-stroke engines are manufactured by Wärtsilä.

A MARPOL letter of approval shows that the CR Ocean Engineering scrubbers will enable full compliance of the Stena ship with Annex VI emissions regulations.  When a scrubber is not in use, there is a change-over from heavy fuel oil (HFO) to compliant fuel based on the vessel change-over procedures. The other two main engines can be used but run exclusively on low-sulphur compliant fuel.

Each scrubber is also configured to store data on its operation that will be saved for 18 months before it can be over-written by new data.
