Alfa Laval have launched a streamlined exhaust gas recirculation water treatment system, PureNOx Prime, which reduces the space required for EGR and cuts investment needs.
PureNOx Prime is a water treatment system that cleans water used in an EGR system. It prevents the accumulation of soot and compounds derived from the exhaust gas gathering in the EGR scrubber, and enables the release of clean water back into the environment.
When a ship uses EGR for NOx reduction, a scrubber must be incorporated to clean sulphur oxides (SOx) and particulates generated in the combustion process. The scrubber uses recirculated freshwater to prolong the lifetime of engine components. PureNOx Prime functions by using a centrifugal separator to clean the wash water in the wet scrubber.
Kristina Effler, Business Manager, Water Treatment Exhaust Gas Emissions, commented, “Alfa Laval PureNOx technology has been developed in close cooperation with MAN Diesel & Turbo and tested extensively aboard vessels from A.P. Moller-Maersk. Simply put, PureNOx Prime packs the already proven PureNOx performance into a much smaller footprint.”
