Cammell Laird shipbuilding has selected Subsea Industries’ Ecospeed hull protection system for polar research ship, Sir David Attenborough, which has been commissioned by the National Environment Research Council and will be operated by the British Antarctic Survey.
- According to BAS, unlike other coatings tested, Ecospeed does not need additional antifouling treatments, reducing the impact of research vessels to polar waters.
- Subsea Industries says that its hard coating does not leach chemicals into the water, while reducing biofouling, increasing hull efficiency and minimising transport of species.
- Sir David Attenborough will operate in 2019 in Antarctica using the Ecospeed ice-strengthened coating.
