Rolls Royce remains bullish on autonomous ships within decade

In a recent article, the Vice President of Innovation, Engineering, and Technology, Marine at Rolls Royce, Mr Oskar Levander, claims industry can expect autonomous ships routinely navigating global waters within the decade.

It is not ‘if’, but ‘when’ they will happen, states Levander.
Rolls Royce anticipates first autonomous vessels will be harbour tugs or car-ferrys designed for short distances.
Benefits of unmanned ships include reduced onboard fatigue, reduced risks of attacks, lower accommodation spend, larger cargo capacity and lower wind resistance.
