The Day of the Seafarer 2016 #AtSeaForAll

This year, IMO’s Day of the Seafarer campaign will once again raise awareness of global seafarers and celebrate the work that they do. This year’s campaign applauds seafarers and highlights how indispensable they are.

The official campaign theme for this year is: “At Sea For All”.

The purpose of the Day is to celebrate the unsung heroes of shipping, the industry which underpins global trade on which we all rely to transport food, fuel, commodities, raw materials and goods around the world.

This theme has a clear link with the 2016 World Maritime Day theme, “Shipping: indispensable to the world”, emphasising that seafarers serve at sea not just for the shipping industry or for their own career purposes but for all of us – and, consequently, they are also “indispensable to the world”.

IMO Secretary-General Kitack Lim said: “this year, on June 25th, the Day of the Seafarer, we are once again asking people everywhere to show their appreciation for the seafarers that quietly, mostly unnoticed, keep the wheels of the world in motion”.

The campaign leaders are asking that the word is spread via the use of the campaign hashtag #AtSeaForAll on social media.  You can also test your seafarer knowledge and find out if you are a Landlubber, Able Seaman, Chief Officer or Captain via a fun quiz: http://dayoftheseafarer2016.imo.org/
