I-TECH’s antifouling ingredient Selektope has been shortlisted for two highly regarded environmental awards this year.
This is in addition to the Environmental Performance Award that they took home from the European Marine Engineering Awards in April this year.
Fathom Maritime Intelligence has chosen Selektope as a finalist in the Environmental Technology category of the Ship Efficiency Awards, which will be held on November 2 this year. This particular award recognises innovative technologies that have contributed to reducing the environmental impact of shipping.
Selektope has also been shortlisted for the Environmental Award at the Tanker Shipping & Trade Conference and Awards 2016. Organised by Rivera Maritime Media, these awards recognise excellence, innovation, and environmental performance across the tanker industry.
I-TECH AB is based in Gothenburg. Their unique antifouling agent can be added to antifouling paint products to repel barnacles for the ship’s hull. It has thus far been selected by two paint companies for inclusion in their products following years of rigorous testing.
Selektope has been approved by Japanese, Korean, Chinese and European regulatory bodies. It has also completed successful trials with several different ship owners.
Philip Chaabane, Chief Executive I-TECH, commented: “After a 16-year journey to market, it is deeply satisfying that Selektope to be getting the recognition it deserves from industry. We hope to win, of course, but to be shortlisted is in itself a tremendous achievement, with independent judges vindicating the growing confidence in Selektope and its environmental performance.”
