The United States Navy has signed a Statement of Cooperation with the Government of Queensland, Australia to refuel the Navy’s fleet with biofuel and further advance its Great Green Fleet Initiative.
As part of the US Navy’s goal to utilise more renewable energy sources, The Great Green Fleet commitment was set up to ensure that by 2020 it obtains at least half of its power from renewables.
The premier of Australia’s northeastern state of Queensland, Annastacia Palaszczuk, signed the deal this week. The aim of Australia’s involvement is to set up the state as a biofuel hub, with the potential for it to become a refuelling station for the US Navy’s biofuel fleet.
