The Vancouver Fraser Port Authority has signed a contract with ABB for shore-to-ship technology that will provide power from shore to Canada’s largest container port in Delta, British Colombia.
- The Global Container Terminal, Deltaport, handles trans-Pacific container vessels and will, with ABB’s technology, allow ships to connect to Canada’s electrical grid, BC Hydro.
- Ships will be able to shut down their engines while in port, reducing noise pollution and emissions of SOx, NOx, and particulate matter. Ships doing this will also be eligible for discounted power supply.
- Project is part of a joint commitment by the federal government and Vancouver Fraser Port Authority to reduce environmental impact.
