Following the release of its Global Energy Outlook earlier this year, DNV GL has now released a similar report focused on the maritime industry.
In its global outlook DNV GL said the world will be moving away from an oil-based oil dependency, towards one where electricity will play a significant role. However that electricity will increasingly be produced from renewable sources, particularly wind and solar.
The report, which focus on the trends towards 2050 show how oil trades will be the most dramatically hit, with LNG trades having a significant up-tick. Container shipping will also grow significantly as economies across the globe increase.
With the move away from oil the offshore industry will be refocusing its efforts into the new industries emerging in the ocean space, such as deep-water windpower, aquaculture and mining.
