Wan Hai Lines Invests in Mobile Scrubber Barge for its Ships Calling at the Port of Long Beach

Wan Hai Lines is to construct and deploy a barge fitted with Advanced Maritime Emissions Control System (AMECS) technology that willconnect to the exhaust ports of Wan Hai Lines containerships to scrub emissions whilst they call at the Port of Long Beach.

The container shipping company recently signed a cooperation agreement with Advanced Environmental Group LLC (AEG) to commence construction.

The AMECS technology captures and removes airborne emissions from diesel auxiliary engines and auxiliary boilers of ocean-going vessels at berth and/or at anchor. This mobile solution demands no ship modifications for use and there are no impacts on loading or offloading operations.

According to AEG, the mobile scrubber technology removes 96% of particulate matter (PM)

98% of nitrogen oxides (NOx) and 99% of sulphur dioxide (SO2).

The Port of Long Beach CEO, Jon Slangerup has applauded Wan Hai for their commitment to green shipping operations.

Wan Hai Lines was also awarded the “Best Green Shipping Line 2016” accolade by AFLAS this June.
