At this year’s CIMAC Congress, Helsinki, held June 6-10, Wärtsilä is to present a number of papers, host technical tours to local companies, and provide a wide range of products, systems and solutions to demonstrate its commitment to advancing fuel efficiency and technological capabilities.
The company will use its presentations to demonstrate its technological advances in fuel flexibility, efficiency, and environmental sustainability.
For example, the year old Wärtsilä 31 engine, which claims the lowest fuel consumption over a wide operating range, is available in dual-fuel, diesel and pure gas versions and meet the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) Tier III limit, acts as a key example of Wärtsilä’s advances in technology development. Furthermore, recognition by the Guinness World Records for this engine for it being the world’s most efficient 4-stroke diesel engine, demonstrates Wärtsilä’s commitment to technical advancements.
A number of papers to be presented at the technical sessions will also illustrate Wärtsilä’s technical breakthroughs. For instance, the world’s first gas tanker to be fuelled by liquefied ethane gas and powered by Wärtsilä main engines was launched this spring, with another eight similar vessels currently under construction.
Wärtsilä will also present a paper on the world’s first methanol fuelled ferry. This was the result of a project to select a sulphur-free alternative fuel for compliance with environmental regulations. The fuel chosen is a liquid state methanol.
Other Wärtsilä presentations will include one on a liquefied natural gas (LNG) powered icebreaker featuring the industry’s most advanced technology, and another on the use of hydrogen as fuel for Wärtsilä gas engines.
