Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics’ (WWL) has welcomed its fourth Neo-Panamax high efficiency RoRo HERO class vessel to its fleet, taking the company’s total newbuildings completed up to 50%.
The MV Themis is built for the expanded Panama Canal and features a specially designed hull shape, rudder and bow to reduce drag and wave resistance to improve fuel efficiency. The ship is also fitted with an exhaust gas cleaning system (EGCS) to remove sulphur oxides (SOx) emissions to less than 0.1% and particulate matter by 70% for operation in Emission Control Areas (ECAs).
Like her sister vessels, Theben, Thalatta and Thermopylae, the Themis is almost 200 metres long, 36.5 metres wide and features five liftable car decks, allowing for multiple configurations and a wide variety of customer cargo.
All HERO class ships comply with the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) guidelines on ship recycling.
Themis’ maiden voyage saw her dock at Yokohama, Japan, as the first port of call and is now sailing towards Bremerhaven, Germany as her final destination.
