The International Maritime Organization (IMO) has hosted a workshop in Rabat, Morocco from July 19-21 to raise awareness of the organisation’s role in regulating improvements in energy efficiency and the control of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from ships.
Participants at the three-day ‘MARPOL Annex VI and Technology Transfer’ workshop included those from Moroccan governmental departments, port authorities and maritime training institutes.
The training event is the latest in a line of workshops organised under IMO’s GloMEEP project, which supports uptake and implementation of energy efficiency measures for shipping in developing countries. Morocco is one of the 10 GloMEEP lead pilot countries.
It has also been revealed that Morocco has held the First National Task Force meeting on July 21 to endorse the National Work Plan of activities under the GloMEEP project for the coming two years, which will include decisions on which bodies will be responsible for different GloMEEP activities.
