Videotel Updates Ballast Water Management e-Learning Training Package

Videotel has updated its ballast water management (BWM) training package in order to help ship owners and operators comply with the requirements of the recently ratified Ballast Water Management Convention.

They have also urged ship owners and operators to think ahead to the implementation of the Convention that will enter into force on September 2017, and not wait until it arrives to act.

Videotel’s training package, Ballast Water Management Edition 2, incorporates a plan for the implementation of the BWM Convention, including proper record keeping and the need for operator training on a compliant onboard system to treat ballast water and eliminate unwanted organisms. The programme also includes an overview on the different BWM systems that are available for different types of vessels.

The training solution developer already has more than 950 new and updated training solutions to meet the training needs to seafarers and provides them in a range of formats including e-learning courses and its MobileCast content delivery service, which uses multi-casting technology to deliver news, entertainment, and operations without using the ship’s monthly airtime data allotments.

Nigel Cleave, CEO of Videotel has urged ship owners and ship managers to take advantage of the updated programme now rather than wait for the ratification due date. He warns that delaying action would leave insufficient time for them to choose which system is suitable for their vessels and ensure their crews are properly trained to ensure compliance.
